We%26#39;re staying in Cannes from 24th - 28th June. I would really like to visit Portofino or Santa Margherita Ligure. Has anybody on this board ever travelled to the Italian Riveria from the Cannes, Nice, Monaco before? Is it worth the trip? If so, any tips on how to get there would be greatly appreciated.

Will you have a car or are you planning to travel by train? If the latter, I think the train from Cannes to Sta. Margherita Ligure via Genoa would take somewhere around 4.5 hours each way. And then you would still have to get to Portofino...
I have made the trip by car, and I would guess that on a good day with all the stars in alignment and no delays, you could make it in about three hours from Cannes. It is almost all Autoroute/Autostrada until the last bit on the Portofino peninsula.
Portofino is lovely but with so much to see and do along the Riviera coast and in the hinterland I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d want to take a whole day out of the four that you will be in Cannes to make such a long trip...
