Some preliminary figures:
6th trip to paris.
2 people
4 nights
1 major election
98 hours in Central Paris (10am Thursday - Noon Monday)
800 Euros spent in cafes, bars, restaurants, grocers, newstands, metro stations, street markets, wine shops, and airport %26quot;duty free%26quot; (this excludes hotel, arrival taxi, and one budget busting lunch).
13 bus rides per person (we went bus crazy, taking rides just to use up carnet tickets)
1 metro ride person (Bastille to Odeon on a Friday night)
Countless miles walked
0 pounds weight gained.
7 cafe cremes each
5 croissants each (we were having two breakfasts per day)
5 kir royals (it just leaps out of my mouth when the waiter says %26quot;blah blah blah blah aperitif blah blah blah%26quot;)
0 hot russian women
1 Pont Neuf boat ride (we usually take 2)
2 Rick Steve%26#39;s tour groupees (chatted with them on boat ride)
0 andouillete
1 incident catching my hotel neighbor on his balcony in his under shorts (we waved).
4 slices of pate du foie gras
2 cokes (ok ok ok, it was really hot the day we arrived, we were really tired, and I needed energy, caffiene, and something cold. It is served with style: traditonal coke bottles, highball glass, ice, lemon, and silly long spoon. And lots of people were drinking them.

But no Berthellon Sorbet, what a shame !

I love %26#39;..Rickies..%26#39;. They think they%26#39;ve discovered the Ark of the Covenant in Oregon, filled with the lost sacred travel writ.

All you needed is %26quot;time spent in Paris, Priceless!! lol:)
|||
LOL! Very clever. I especially like the 0 weight gain and 0 hot russian women!!

Sure ASTA was sorry he missed you!
Where was the budget-blowing lunch?
Bravo on an excellent trip report... one of the best I%26#39;ve read to date!!!
Oh KDK, they don%26#39;t claim to have discovered the ark, merely the rue Cler in Paris!!!

The budget blowing lunch was Louis Relais XIII on Saturday. That was only our second Michelin star restaurant, the other was Tour D%26#39;argent.
Some numbers from the lunch:
2 hours 30 minutes (12:30-3:00)
14 diners in our room (if you had kids you were in another room)
8 men: 4 with jackets, 3 with ties (me included), 1 with sunglasses.
1 attempt by my wife to pour her own wine. She thought all the staff had left the room but she missed a waitress who promptly finished the pour. I can%26#39;t take her anywhere.
Also:
We had intended on checking out %26quot;Le Pre Verre%26quot; recomended by the expert formerly know as Good2Go, but arrived to late for lunch on Friday.
About the goose egg for the Berthillion:
Usually we get glace in the afternoon around 4 or 5 (my wife calls it our %26quot;tea%26quot;). However, it was so hot that any place that sold glace to go (any brand) had a really long line. Furthermore, we had a tough time consuming enough fluids with all our walking and I was always thirsty. Ice cream usually makes me thirstier still, so I declared it was %26quot;too hot for ice cream%26quot; for me. The wife did take 3 boules of it at a cafe, and I had sorbet or ice cream with dessert twice.

I should mention that the %26quot;Rick Steve%26#39;s Groupies%26quot; were very nice ladies and enthusiastic about starting their vacation.
I know Rick Steves and company take a beating on this forum but I think they do a good job of beginner tourism for people that may not see Europe otherwise.
