What to do on Saturday night?

Thanks to this forum I think I have our itinery more or less sorted, but have a gap on Saturday evening.

As we are on a budget I%26#39;m not planning to take in a show or anything like that. We would just like to soak up the atmosphere and relax after a days sightseeing.

Hopefully it will be warm -end of June. Are any of the gardens or parks pleasant on an evening? Perhaps there is somewhere with live music or entertainment? Free if possible? Anywhere in central Paris considered.

Any ideas welcomed. Thank you.

The city parks don%26#39;t stay open late - the gendarmes come around and herd everyone out and lock the gates. Not sure of an exact time, but in October it was around 7pm.

You can pick up an %26#39;events%26#39; magazine when you get there at any of the newsstands/kiosks you see...

Free online reference: go to www.parisvoice.com and then download/print the May/June magazine (it changes every other month):

Sometimes in mid-summer, they have open-air concerts, I think at either Parc de la Villette or Parc Floral? in Vincennes.

The closing time of the parks varies with the time of sunset. Thus the parks will be open at least a couple of hours later in June than they would be in October.

The best way to find out what is going on in Paris while you are there will be to pick up a copy of Pariscope from a news-stand. There is a section in it for free concerts and other free events.

Don%26#39;t forget that if you are dining at a restaurant on a %26quot;Parisian%26quot; timetable, you may not even be sitting down to eat until 9:00pm, especially on a Saturday night. You could enjoy a stroll in a park and then go to dinner.

I can tell you that Rue Mouffetard was hopping on a Sat night. Musicians were playing in the Greek %26amp; Spanish restaurants %26amp; there%26#39;s a few shops open late - one with sparkly faux jewelry (Plaisir d%26#39;Offrir, I think) %26amp; one with bags/shawls/bohemian looking things. It was touristy, but lively %26amp; there was a lot of good French spoken, so there were either locals there or French tourists.

Hanging out in the Latin Quarter near the

Seine on Saturday night was a blast.

Best people watching I had.
