Museum passes and car rentals.....here or there?

Is it better to purchase the 5 day museum pass online or are they easy to purchase once we arrive in Paris? Aside from purchasing at the museum, are there other places to get them?

Regarding car rental-I have seen many people post about renting a car outside of Paris for touring the countryside....can anyone offer more specifics?

We are planning on heading to Loire Valley, and Normandy/Brittany area. Should we make arrangements here before we go or is car rental pretty easy once we are there?

Many thanks to all who contribute such valuable info to this forum.

My experience, and understanding from others would say. Arrange for your car rental and train passes(not individual tickets) like Eurorail from the states.

Buy museum and transit passes in Paris. You can purchase them both at a metro station, which are ubiquitous. If you don%26#39;t speak French, take a picture from a website and circle the type of pass and number of days that you want.

The consensus opinion on museum passes is that they are easy to purchase in Paris. They are available at most metro stations.

If you plan to travel to the Loire valley before going to Normandy, your best plan would be to take the TGV to the station just outside Tours, St-Pierre-des-Corps and pick up your car there. That%26#39;s about a one hour train ride. Then if you are returning to Paris and do not want to drive into the city you could probably drop the car in Rouen and take the train, again about one hour, from there.

You will save considerably by renting your car and pre-paying in $$ before you leave. The best rates are generally from one of the consolidators such as Autoeurope.

We did the museum pass for 1 day and we went to 2 metro stops before finding a station that had them in stock. You can fill in the dates on the back of the pass depending of course on how many days you purchase so you might want to pick your passes up before the day or days you plan to visit the museums. It was very valueable and I loved going to the front of the lines.

DO NOT pre-purchase Carte Musee et Monument passes (nor Paris Visite transportation passes) from third-party vendors before arriving in Paris. Theses passes may be purchased at almost any regular Metro station in Paris or at any of the participating museums (though it would be a good idea to avoid making your purchase at a major attraction likr the Louvre or d%26#39;Orsay to avoid the very lines that you%26#39;re buying the pass to avoid) These per-purchase vendors add on anywhere from 25-35 % in the way of premiums %26amp; charges over the official price in Paris for little ofr no added convenience.

We%26#39;ve never rented cars in Europe but almost everyone I know who has has gotten BETTER rates and deal by pre-booking from the US. AutoEurope-- http://www.autoeurope.com/ --always get great reviews and high marks for their services. When booking rental cars, it%26#39;s alway a good idea to check the details of benefits that any credit cards you have provide for CDW insurance coverages and use the one with the best coverages to book your rental.
