I had a nice two week trip planned out, traveling with my family. Kids age 15 and 9. My husband had a little business in Paris then a couple day meeting in Salzburg.
Here was the plan
4 days Paris
Night train to Munich
Day at Neuschwanstein
3 nights Salzburg (sound of music/Mozart/Salt mines)
3 nights Rothenburg/Rhine River
2 nights Bruges
Home from Brussels
Here is the problem. I just found out that the meetings that were supposed to be in Salzburg have been moved to a conference center/spa/golf resort about halfway between Munich and Salzburg. The place is called the Astron Sporthotel Achental hotell located in Chiemgau between Chiemsee and Kampenwand. I couldn%26#39;t even find Cheimgau on the map. I%26#39;m a bit disappointed as this was the portion of the trip we weren%26#39;t going to have to pay for a hotel but it looks boring. Salzburg looked fun, but if we have to go alone we might as well stay in France. Where should we go?
In France, I%26#39;ve only been outside of Paris once. Train to Dijon. Bicycle trip to Beaune. More bicycling in the Beaujolais finishing in Lyon. Train back to Paris. Sweetest little towns!

Don%26#39;t know your dates, but there is a festival in Gent, Belgium July 16 - 25.
We stumbled in to it last year and it was fantastic, with lots of music, including young violinists busking on the corners!
If those dates don%26#39;t match, you may want to try a visit to the Loire Valley... chateaux galore, bike paths and some kayaking avail.

I don%26#39;t really know Chiemgau but I lived in Munich and the Chiemsee was a very popular destination for the locals. I know the area is very nice and I%26#39;m sure it won%26#39;t be boring. I really can%26#39;t tell you if it%26#39;s better to stay in France but both choices are good.

Google Chiemgau and look at the tranlated page for Chiemgau Online. (Page is not exact translation so there are some idiosycrasies.) If you look down the right hand side it looks like there is theater, concerts, sports events and other things to do. May not be too boring.

Part of the problem is that the hotel is kind of an adult oriented spa/golfing resort and I would be stuck with no transport (I can%26#39;t drive the car because of corp. insurance rules).
The result is that I decided I wanted to go to Salzburg anyway. We are actually going to stay in Salzburg and hubby is going to drive to his meetings. A fine compromise. :-)
