Paris Olympics

I just read the IOC Evaluation Committee%26#39;s report that was released yesterday. Paris is the only candidate city that did not receive any negative remarks. It now has the highest ranking by the committee.

And if anyone has an entire afternoon with nothing better to do you could always read it :)

I would like to think that Paris will offer the most bribes but Moscow have me worried.

I hope Paris wins, it would be fantastic, i am a huge sports fan.

|||

It says that the city will invest 2.3bilion USD in public transport if it wins.

Wow. Imagine a Paris where every metro access had a wheelchair ramp!

The benifits would pay off for decades to come !

|||

Accessibility is one area of transportation where Paris could use SERIOUS improvement.

|||

On Cnn.com Paris is ranked highest for people voting on where they want 2012 to be.

I voted for Paris myself:)

Time to prepare the ad to rent my appartment in 2012, so.

Thank God it was not New York City - I was living in L.A. for the %26#39;84 Olympics and it was a nightmare. Not to mention the sinful and shameful waste of money that could be put to other purposes. The cost of security will be gargantuan.

But maybe this is what the French psysche needs at the moment since the country is seemingly poltically moribund.

And Paris certainly could use a new raison d%26#39;tre!

I can%26#39;t honestly say I would be envious of Paris%26#39; front-runner status if I lived in any of the other contending cities.

I dread toi think what New York would end up doing (to say nothing of what a nightmare life in the city would be lduring the Games...) if that city got the nod...

But apart from some of the less wonderful schemes of the Pompidou era, Paris does seem to have a way of spending public monies in ways that end up being a long-term benefit to the city.

Still, I am reminded of two sayings:

%26quot;Be careful what you ask for, for you may receive it.%26quot; And:

%26quot;timeo danaos, et dona ferentes....%26quot;

I think Denys has the right idea. Put all your best stuff in safe storage,,ent your aprtment, and get out of town for the duration...

|||

Not to seem stupid here...but where the heck would they have the games in Paris??? And how long will it last. As you can tell- I am not a huge fan of the Olympics

Thanks

Robin
