Help with itinerary, please...

This is my husband %26amp; my first trip to Paris. We are staying at Caron de Beaumarchais - is this good? Is a shuttle the best way to get from the airport? Or should we attempt the metro? We will be there for 5 days and then continuing to Barcelona. We arrive early on Jul 1 and leave early on July 9. Please help with an itinerary, as am unsure how much we can squeeze into a week. Here%26#39;s what we have so far:

Monday - Evening sail on boat down seine, followed by going to the Eiffel Tower

Tuesday- 10:00 DaVinci Code tour

Wednesday - All day trip to Versailles %26amp; Giverny

Thursday- All day trip/tour to Normandy

Friday -

Want to see all the big highlights of Paris. Should we take an hop on/off bus? Louvre is the only museum we%26#39;re gonna see. Please help with suggestions. Merci...

We had no problem taking the RER to Paris from the airport, but we studied posts on this site first about exactly how it works. You don%26#39;t mention seeing any monuments or parks or visiting any neighborhoods or shops or restaurants and you plan to spend two of your five days outside the city... I think you%26#39;d benefit from the inspiration of a guidebook to identify the %26quot;big highlights%26quot; from your point of view and to enhance your itinerary (I liked Thirza Vallois%26#39; Romantic Paris, many love Rick Steves, others swear by Fodors... you can find exhaustive guidebook commentaries on this site).

.. your first trip, how wonderful. To address a few points. From Roissy to your hotel I would suggest either taking a cab or getting the air France bus. Get the one which does to Port Maillot (Palais du congress). get off and get the line 1 metro. I think the bus in is more fun for a first visit. The Caron de Beaumarchais is in the Marais. One of my favorite parts of Paris though for a first trip I would recommend the 6th...but you will like this small charming hotel. re your schedule- you do not have much time. I would drop Normandy and would go to Versailles if you feel you need to do a day trip. If you just went to Versaille you could do a 1/2 day trip). Get the Michelin Green Guide and do 2 walks..I would walk around the Ile de la Cite and Ile St. Louis, across to the R bank- Place des Voges and I would go into the Carnevalet Museum. You also should walk along the L bank from Notre Dame..probably along St. Germaine with coffee at Duex Magots (expensive and corny but fun)..hope this helps..but do drop Normandy (or V and G). I would suggest dropping both and just spending 1/2 day V.

that is alot to miss in Paris

if you really are going to see Paris then see Paris

otherwise I would rent a car and take your time going out of the city

I have gotten some really good advice on this forum and the people who have been there have all said soak it in

Just my thoughts

so is that a da vinci tour that starts at 10 or is it 10 hours long?

The easiest would be to take either a taxi directly to your hotel (expect to pay 35-55 Euro, depending on traffic, time of day, # of bags, etc) -or- take the Air France bus line# 4 to Gare de Lyon for about 11-12 Euro per person. Metro Line 1 connects to this train station (may be a bit of a walk) and you will ride only two stops to %26quot;St Paul%26quot; a few blocks from the hotel. Or take the AF bus to Gare de Lyon, then go outside and get a taxi to the hotel, for approximately 6-8 Euro.

I agree with the person who said two day trips from Paris is too much in a 5 day trip. Unless you have a sentimental reason for going to Normandy (WWII landing beaches?), I would skip that and just soak in Paris. Your hotel has a generally good reputation and is in a fantastic location in rue Vieille du Temple. That street becomes rue du Pont Louis Philippe on the other side of rue de Rivoli and leads you to the Ile St Louis and the Ile de la Citie at the back of Notre Dame in a 10 minute stroll. Rue V du T is has a number of nice bistros like Les Philosophes and its neighbour La Chaise au Plafond. The hotel is also 2 steps from rue ste Croix de la Bretonnerie and rue des Rosiers, both great streets for cafes

Thanks for the replies. We will not do Ver/Giv...with that said. Please reply with a breakdown of everything that we should do (we%26#39;re only going to the Louvre, no other museums) each day...keeping in mind we want to squeeze in as much as possible each day but arent%26#39; sure how long we need to be in each place and how close they are to each other. KDK or others...please help. The DaVince tour is for 2 hours.

I think you%26#39;d really enjoy St. Chappelle - Metro stop: Cite. It costs about 5 Euro per person and you need to go on a sunny day. Also, try a cooking lesson with Anne Sfez. Our forum friends are probably tired of hearing about this from me, but it was so great that I have to pass it along. You can read more about it on the post titled %26quot;Favorite Night in Paris Was...%26quot; and look for my user name. It%26#39;s a very unique experience and you have to eat anyway! Why not do something completely different?
