Scenic drives and wineries from Nice

I have a car for one day. Can anyone recommend a scenic trip to local wineries norht and northwest of Nice.

Nice is not really in a wine-producing area. There is one tiny appellation - I think it may be the smallest in France - Bellet. It is centered around Sr-Roman-de-Bellet just 3 or 4 miles outside Nice to the northwest. Reds, whites and roses are produced in small quantities. All, and to my palate particularly the whites, are very pleasant to drink - if you can find any...

The nearest wine producing area of any size is around Bandol, between Toulon and Marseille, about a two hour drive by the autoroute, which is not very scenic, and a lot more by any of a number of possible scenic routes.

The very small wine district of Bellet is within the boundaries of Nice itself. Its up on hills with a view over the river Var and the coastline. Wines are good. The key word is small. There are a dozen producers. Its not touristic. You probably ned to knock doors to meet someone able to sell you a few bottles. Nice. generally, is not the place for a rental car, simply becaus public means of communication are excellent and abundant. However, having one for a day, you can drive on the corniches. From La Turbie you can take the raod to Peille and from that road, behind Mont Sgel, find your way to Ste Agnes and then back down to Menton. Thats scenic. Theres a whole world of back-country to discover, dozens of perched villages, serpentine roads, passroads, canyons, beautiful forests and so forth, but not in one day.
