Hi my wife and I are going to Paris for 4 days in October (miles away I know) we were wondering if anyone has any recomendations for hotels. We are after some where cheap (around 60 - 70/room/night) but clean %26amp; modern and somewhere with plenty of bars ect close by but not too noisey. Also must be fairly close to the metro as will need to travel too and from the airport and trips into the centre of the city. Been trawling the net but it%26#39;s a minefield as you well know. Many thanks Mark %26amp; Deb

Have a look at Hotel du Marais, maybe it can correspond to what you are searching for...It is in the are of Le Marais, int he 3rd, a very animated disctrict. The hotel is very clean and the area is safe.
I highly recommend it to you!

I stayed at Hotel Des Grandes Ecoles - see my review under the hotels section (there are pics too). It was close to the 10 %26amp; 6 lines, bars up the street %26amp; had a nice quiet courtyard. Close to the pantheon, Rue Mouffetard, Luxemborg Gardens.

In the Marais, which is my favorite area to stay in Paris, there are two hotels that might work for you.
Hotel Pratic, www.paris-hotel-pratic.com, is on a charming pedestrian square in a great location. Recently renovated, and very quiet because of its location.
Round the corner from it is the Grand Hotel Jeanne d%26#39;Arc, a bit quirky, but I like its quirkiness.
Check this site and others for reviews and opinions.
Both of these are very close to the center, in a great area, and perhaps a ten minute walk from Notre Dame. The closest metro station is maybe 100 yards away. There are dozens of great cafes and restaurants in every price range all around, including a couple on the square I mentioned.
I sense that you might be looking for a place with lively nightlife nearby, and the Marais has a few good spots. Another area where you might look is the Oberkampf/Republique area, not far from the Marais. You might find some good value hotels there, and the nightlife will definitely be lively. What you lose is that it is a bit farther from the center and not as %26quot;charming%26quot; and it might be a bit more difficult to find a hotel on a really quiet street...
Have a great trip!

You will have trouble finding a double with shower and WC in the centre for 60-70 Euros in October. I don%26#39;t know of the Hotel du Marais http://www.paris-hotel-marais.com but its average nightly rate in October seems to be about 78 Euros. For the Grand Hotel Jeanne d%26#39;Arc cheapest double is 82 Euros parishotels.com/…_le_Marais_star_en.html
At the Pratic in October doubles are about 125 Euros. In the off season the cheapest is about 80 Euros - This hotel is in a great location (same basically as Jeanne d%26quot;Arc and the Sevigne (below) although some rooms look out over Place du Marche Ste Catherine but it does get patchy reviews on Tripadviser http://www.hotelpratic.com/eng/resaintro.php
At the Hotel Sevigne two blocks from Place Ste Catherine you can get a double with shower and WC for 73 Euros http://www.le-sevigne.com/ang_tarifs.htm
In the area near the Gobelins near the south end of rues Monge and Mouffetard - the Residens des Gobelins (non smoking hotel) -is about 20 minuts walk to Notre Dame and you can get a double for 76 Euro with facilities
http://www.hotelgobelins.com/frame.html
Nearby Hotel Port Royal charges 73 for a double with facilities but 48 if you share http://www.portroyalhotel.fr.st/
There are also super cheapies like the Hotel Henri IV (on Ile de la Citie) and Hotel Tiquetonne with share facilities. Look at the Eurocheapo website.
