A quiet Sunday in Paris?

Not this Sunday, or so it would appear.

Apparently the entire city is to be given over to a massive %26quot;get out the vote%26quot; drive in support of the 2012 Olympics bid.

The entire length of the Champs is to be turned into a massive sports arena, with demonstrations of all 28 olympic disciplines. (There are only 28?)

There will be a 700m running track, tennis courts, boxing rings, a rowing venue (How they gonna do that?), hockey and so on. (What? No sailing???)

Meanwhile thousands of screaming kids will be cut loose in support of the bid, their hormones at elevated levels from their recent participation in the Junior Games of Paris.

And the rest of the city will be given over to hordes of Gateau St-Honore munching cyclists, techno-crazed roller-bladers and

fitness-fanatic walkers, who will disrupt traffic flow as far as the outer rube-urbs.

All sounds a bit Maoist to me... :%26gt;)

So if you want to read all about it (and practice your French) go to:

Oh, and the whole thing ends up with a free concert in the Champ de Mars, where the ravers will be out in their millions.

Sleep well, Paris!

That%26#39;s funny, my daughter was given her Paris 2012 t shirt from the Mairie today and I thought to myself, %26quot;How very commie youth of them.%26quot;

Perhaps Chirac will demonstrate his fitness to continue to reign by swimming the Seine from the Pont de Grenelle to the Pont de Tolbiac - against the prevailing current of course...

And those are Paris-Brest munching cyclists, not Gateau St-Honore munchers. I mean, how gauche would that be?

As long as they can still enjoy their Gitanes...
