Paris to Venice

What is the best way to get from Paris to Venice? My husband and I are going in late June.

Depends on your schedule, travel preferences and priorities.

For many, the best way between Paris and Venice is in a private compartment on the direct overnight train, speeding from PARIS-Bercy direct to Venice. The train leaves Paris at approx 8:30 PM and arrives in Venice at approx 8:45 AM

|||

I%26#39;d probably take the overnight train as KDKSAIL suggests, but not everyone likes long train journeys...

Budget flights from Paris to Venice don%26#39;t exist, as far as I know. You can fly with EasyJet from Orly to Milan for as little as 25 Euros plus taxes (www.easyjet.com) and then take the train from there. The train takes about 2.5 to 3 hours and costs about 20 Euros in second class. You can book tickets up to 60 days in advance at www.trenitalia.it

have a great trip!

There%26#39;re Ryanair flights from Paris (Beauvais airport) to Venice (Treviso airport)

For infos about Ryanair have a look at

http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/ryan.htm

It%26#39;s a discount airline, so they have reduced baggage allowances etc.

I am flying from Paris to Venice with my husband and daughter on Ryan air for something like 60 euro for all three of us. It%26#39;s an unbelievable airfare. Check it out.

Thanks for reminding me about the Ryanair option. I have a little bit of a blind spot when it comes to Ryanair, though I have flown it several times, compounded by a bit of a blind spot about Beauvais.

You are right of course. Ryanair would likely be both the cheapest and quickest option...

|||

If you haven%26#39;t gotten your US-France airplane ticket yet, another option is to go Air France direct from the US to Venice, with an airfare that allows a _stopover_ in Paris...if you want to be in Paris for more than a few hours and less than 30 days. This option may become competitive.

This is CeeJay%26#39;s post from the Lonely Planet website :

Two basic options - Ryanair from Paris (Beauvais) to Venice (Treviso) or a direct train from cebtral Paris to central Venice.

I%26#39;ve done both and love train travel so am biased but here%26#39;s what you need to know.

Ryanair is the cheaper option if you can get a good price for the flight but it%26#39;s not the quick easy hop across you might think. First of all neither airport is big, they%26#39;re getting better but think one tiny shop in a large shed. Beauvais is over an hour away from Paris proper and your shuttle bus leaves Paris 3 and a quarter hours before your flight time, which is a lot.

It costs 13 euro each. On arrival in Treviso - depending on traffic about 45 minutes from Venice - there%26#39;s another shuttle bus to take you the rest of the way but this time only 4 euro 50. If you were doing a return trip your shuttle from Venice again leaves 3 hours before your flight.

From hotel door to hotel door you%26#39;re lokking at about 8 hours (we left our hotel in Venice 16.45 and were back home - in Paris - at half past midnight).

Train checkout the French railways site for details (English version available) but the best train is a direct, overnight sleeper (no border checks so a good chance of getting a decent night%26#39;s sleep) from Paris Bercy (a little known station about 20 minutes walk from Bercy metro). A lot less hassle and you %26#39;save%26#39; the price of one night in a hotel.

With both options the sooner you book the cheaper the ticket will be.

Alitalia has flights Paris/venice (through Rome or Milan) for about $300 US per person. Air France has direct flights at $500. Return of course.

|||

But for $547 on Air France, you can go from NYC to Venice rt, with a stopover in Paris depending on your dates of travel. If their fare from NYC to Paris if $477, that essentially means a CDG-Venice roundtrip of only $70 or 50E! And you get AF%26#39;s service instead of discount airline service...

I agree with Darth, because I did that with Florence instead of Venice, with the same stopover for 5 days in Paris. However, Air France was operated by I believe CityJet for the short hop from Paris to Florence...just fine, but not the same quality you might expect from Air France. Very efficient! Highly recommend if you can arrange the whole thing through your Air France agent.
