5e hotel near Notre Dame?

We stayed at the Familia Hotel while in Paris this past March and enjoyed the area; the hotel owner and staff were just great. But we will return again to Paris next March and wonder if anyone has a suggestion for a hotel even closer to Notre Dame than the Familia Hotel (11, rue des Ecoles). Just curious, otherwise we would return to Familia. Thanks.

The area you would be looking at is close to the St. Michel Fountain. I love this entire neighborhood. There are a couple of different hotels to choose from, including the Hotel Parc St. Severin. It happens to be in a neighborhood I particularly like, although most folks look upon the storefront restaurants of the area with disdain. I have always come away with a decent meal.

Another is Hotel Cluny Square. I stay at the Hotel St. Pierre, on the other side of Boul. St Michel from Rue des Ecoles.

I don%26#39;t know of any names offhand, but around Sq. Viviani and the alley behind Shakespeare and Co. there are a couple. Mind you, they won%26#39;t be cheap. As you know, it%26#39;s location, location, location.

Right up the rue des Bernardins from the back of Notre Dame heading in the direction of the Pantheon, is the Hotel Residence Henri IV. It isn%26#39;t fancy and seems rather reasonable. It also has a small kitchen in each room so you can eat simple meals there if you wish. Most people I know seemed happy with it. Do a search here on trip advisor for what people had to say about it.

Have a look at Hotel Saint Paul, a 3 star hotel near stop Odeon...I think it is nearer Notre Dame, it is charming and very quiet hotel. Rates are reasonable. Staff is very fine. I stayed there and was really happy of my stay there. i aprticularly loved the area, very lively and nice. There are a lot of restaurants and bars at all prices.

You can see this hotel on http://www.h-saintpaul.com.

Have a nice trip!

Do you simply want closer physical proximity to Notre Dame itself ?? or do you want a different %26#39;..neighborhood..%26#39; within the same general proximity to the Tuileries/Louvre/Notre Dame axis? If %26#39;..neighborhood..%26#39; is your goal, then look at hotels a bit farther west, in the general area of the northern %26#39;..wedge..%26#39; of the 6th-Saint Germain des Pres (within the general area of rue des Saint Peres to Blvd. Saint Michel and Blvd. Saint Germain to the Seine. This is a GREAT neighborhood, with a LOT of good hotels to choose from.

On our first visit to Paris, we stayed at the FAMILIA HOTEL and liked it a lot (MORE than a lot because we were dumb lucky enough to be assigned one of the rooms on the top floor with a walk-out balcony large enough for a small cafe table and chairs to sit at, while having morning coffe and croissant with a view out over the still shadowed rooftops of Paris). But we%26#39;re usually high summer/season visitors and the Familia does not have A/C. In addition to this, in our initial exploration of Paris, the neighborhoods of the 6th-Saint Germain des Pres simply %26#39;..resonated..%26#39; better with us.

Without fear of contradiction, the closest hotel to Notre Dame is the Hospitel Hotel-Dieu. The hotel is actually part and parcel of the hospital itself, and is practically on the front doorstep of the cathedral. It does, generally speaking, get very good reviews, both for its location and for being very good value. Here is a link to the TA reviews, and you can google it to find more elsewhere: http://tinyurl.com/7aw6y

Perhaps the best-known hotel in close proximity is the Esmeralda on the rue St-Julien-le-Pauvre, right across the street from the churchyard.

Another generally well-spoken of hotel in the area is the Hotel les Degres de Notre Dame, right across the street from the cathedral, on the rus des Grands Degres.

There are two or three more hotels within a three minute walk of Notre Dame, most of them with the words Notre Dame in their name. One is in the rue Maitre Albert in which I think there is (or used to be) a good bistro whose name I cannot recall. Since that is now annoying me, if anybodty knows the bistro I am thinking of, posting its name here would be an act of mercy. Thanks!

THe Hotel les Degres de N.D. is right across the RIVER from the cathedral, not across the street...

Sorry %26#39;bout that!

Hi Irishrovr, I know the name of that bistro you%26#39;re referring to. It%26#39;s the Atelier Maitre Albert (now owned by Guy Savoy) at 1 rue Maitre Albert. The hotel on the same street is called Hotel de Notre Dame at #19.

The HOTEL ESMERELDA (1-star) is definitely closer to Notre Dame...but unless they%26#39;ve done a MAJOR renovation to the property within the past couple/few years, the property itself leaves a LOT to be desired....and while a few steps closer to Notre Dame, several steps down from the Familia.

paris_1204 - Thanks! That is the place I was thinking of. I%26#39;m kinda sorry to hear it has become part of the Guy Savoy empire, because it used to be a simple enough place with good food, and especially friendly on a winter evening. I%26#39;m sure it will now be much more upscale and chic. Oh well...

KDKSAIL - I agree with you about the Esmeralda Oddly enough there still seem to be people who love the place and rave about it. I deliberately left my mention of it unqualified, as opposed to the other two places I specifically mentioned, because it is not a place I would recommend myself...

Try the Hotel Central saint germain, http://www.centralstgermain.com/, it is a nice 3 stars hotel with really good prices. The hotel si really clean and nice. It was newly renovated last year. It is a great hotel. It is located in a calm street near The famous Bd Saint michel, very near The Familia hotel.

Enjoy paris
