Purchasing Tickets/Passes from RailEurope in Advance??

although i knwo that people reccommend not getting your paris visite/carte orange/museum passes until you get to france , while i was booking train travel with rail europe the customer service rep mentioned that their cost was notthat much more than in paris

as anyone found this to be true or is it still too much addtiional to pay ?

thanks for the help

I have never booked the things you mention ahead of time. Aside from the additional cost of getting them here, I never seem to be really sure I want them or on what dates until I get there. Plus, they%26#39;re not that difficult to get in Paris.

1. You cannot buy a Carte Orange in advance, it is only sold in France.

2. You will pay more for the convenience - up to you to decide if it%26#39;s really worth it.

3. are you really going to let a Sales Person convince you %26#39;it%26#39;s not that much more%26#39;... it%26#39;s YOUR money, not theirs.

4. you didn%26#39;t specify how much RE would charge for those passes, so we can%26#39;t tell you how much more it would have been

5. but in case you want to compare:

Carte Musee -

1 day EUR 18.00

3 days EUR 36.00

5 days EUR 54.00

Paris Visite -

FARES Fare zones

Zone Children* / Adults

1 DAY 1-3 4.55 / 8.35

2 DAYS 1-3 6.85 / 13.70

3 DAYS 1-3 9.15 / 18.25

5 DAYS 1-3 13.70 / 26.65

It%26#39;s a question of convenience. If you%26#39;re already purchasing train tickets or rail pass products through RailEurope, you%26#39;re already going to have to pay the postage %26amp; handling charges for your order and CARTE MUSEE et MONUMENTS passes and PARIS VISITE transportation passes should add anything to this amount. Since neither the musuem passes nor the transportation passes have any starting date until you first use them, that really doesn%26#39;t matter.

The bigger question that you need to ask is which of the SEVERAL transportation pass options (Carte Orange, Paris Visite, Mobilis) or reduced price Carnets of 10 individual tickets suites you transportation need and itinerary best? There are a few instances where the Paris Visite pass is a good deal...but more times than not, one of the other options will suit better.
