Paris-1st time, 3 days, on a budget

Well my girlfriend and I are currently planning a trip overseas. We will be flying into London and staying with some friends and family. After that we are going to venture to Paris. We are not picky and would like to enjoy the most paris has to offer, yet keeping it on the cheap side. We are going to be there at the begining of July. So my main concern is hotels. I figure we will stay 2 to 3 nights. Muesums, food, and things to do dont really seem to be an issue, for i have read up on this site for a while now. So any advice for some mid 20 year olds, looking to experience Paris, yet keep things within a tight budget.

Another question I had was about the F1 race. Does anyone know how far away the race is, and what is the best way to find out about tixs. I went to gpfrance1 and its in French, so not much luck. Any advice is greatly appreciate.

The french F1 circuit is at Magny-Cours near Nevers, about 250km south of Paris. Trains to Nevers take about 2 hours, and you could probably drive it in about three if you were renting a car.

The site you mentioned www.gpfrancef1.com (note the correct URL) DOES have an English language option. Just click on the little British flag in the top right corner.

Info about tix is on the site.

Bon voyage!

We just got back and stayed at the Hotel Jardin du Villiers. It was 105 Euro per night and included a continental breakfast. We thought it was fine. It%26#39;s one street over from the rue de Levis, which is a Parisian market street. This hotel is in the 17th, and is in more of a neighborhood rather than close to a lot of tourist sites. However, the metro is close and you can get to the tourist sites in a matter of minutes. Email me and I%26#39;ll send you my notes. There are some money-saving tips in them. Hope you have a good trip. My email address is vickisfloyd@hotmail.com.

Take a look at the Hotel Pratic in the Marais. It%26#39;s a nice 2-star, recenty renovated, in a great pedestrian only square, close to the Place des Vosges. Really good inexpensive cafes and restaurants in the square and plenty more within a three block radius. If you like the look of it and it fits your budget, this is a great location.

Others in the same general area which you might be happy with are the Grand Hotel Jeanne d%26#39;Arc on the rue Jarente and the Hotel Castex on the rue Castex.

Check this site and others for reviews etc.

Try to find somewhere in the 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissements. But there is also a lot to be said for the Bastille and Oberkampf/Republique areas too. Not quite so %26quot;quaint%26quot; but very happening, and you%26#39;ll probably get a bit more bang for your hotel buck there. And more great restaurants and cafes, and good nightlife there too...
