5.5 hours in Paris.. what to do?

Hey all. My cousin and I (both 24) will be in Paris for a short 5.5 hours this July. I believe we are there on a Wednesday. Any tips on the best way to see everything? This is a 1st trip for both of us so the Eiffel Tower is a must! Any tips on transportation, must sees and inexpensive places for lunch would be great!

Thanks!

Will you be arriving in and departing from Paris by train?..OR...will you be arriving and/or departing by air? If you simply have a 5 1/2 hour layover at CDG, then you%26#39;d probably better stay put at CDG, you%26#39;ll barely have enough time to get to Paris, turn around and get back to CDG in time for your outgoing flight.

Paris is one stop on our cruise. We have 5.5 hours in Paris.. not including travel time from LeHavre. There is just so much to see and do that we feel a little overwhelmed and were looking for suggestions.

Thanks

just walk around... and you will see things on the way that will entertain you and keep you busy for as long as you have.

Take the L%26#39;Open bus tour. The L%26#39;Open Tour allows you to get on and off wherever the bus stops. (I am assuming the weather will be good...) http://www.paris-opentour.com/en/

Get off at the Louvre and walk through the courtyards to get a look at this magnificent building. Then cross the river by the Pont des Arts and walk along the quai on the left bank past both islands (east) and cross back to the upstream end of the Ile St Louis. Walk back (west) down the middle of the Ile along the rue St. Louis en L%26#39;Ile, stopping for an ice cream (great) or sorbet (even better) at Berthillon.

Pick up some bread, and cheese/charcuterie/fruit and wine along the way and make a picnic at some lovely place along the way.

Cross over to the Ile de la Cite and walk past Notre Dame to the west front and continue to the Sainte Chapelle.

Board the bus again at the Notre Dame stop, and take it to the Place de la Concorde where you could jump off again to have a look round that area, and walk along the river to the Pont Alexandre III for great views of the river, the Eiffel Tower, etc.

Back on the bus at the Concorde stop, and take it along the Champs-Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. (The Champs is not worth walking IMO...) Have a look at the Arc, then walk down the Avenue Kleber to the Trocadero and through it for the best views of the Eiffel Tower.

Cross the river and have a stroll round the Tower. Board the bus again and take it past the Invalides to the stop on the other side of the river at rue Royale.

Head back to the river and cross it by the Pont Neuf, taking a look at the Place Dauphine and the Square du Vert Galant on the way. Find your way to the rue de Seine nearby and then find a cafe called La Palette. If you have any time left spend it here, with a glass of wine. It%26#39;s a great cafe and a good place to sit and people watch.

Of the sights you will have passed, the Sainte Chapelle is an absolute %26quot;must see%26quot; in my book. A quick look inside Notre Dame would be worth while. If I were you I wouldn%26#39;t take the time to stand in the long lines to go up the Eiffel Tower. If you feel you must, you will not be able to follow much (if any) of the rest of this itinerary. The whole exercise will probably eat up half of your time.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion. It will allow you to see a lot of the center and many of the %26quot;sights%26quot; and will give you some orientation for when you return for a proper visit.

My other suggestion would be to leave everything completely unstructured and start perhaps at the Place des Vosges in the Marais and then wander basically in a westerly direction to the Louvre, crossing the islands pretty much as I suggested before. Then wander back through St Germain des Pres and the Latin Quarter. Just have a decent street map so you don%26#39;t get too lost, and follow whatever street looks intersting as long as you keep generally heading in more or less the right direction. And if you have time with this version take a cruise (approx one hour) on the river with one of the boats that leave from the Pont Neuf. This idea would allow you to see less but perhaps %26quot;feel%26quot; more...

Hi Crzy,

Previous post gave you excellent advise, just be sure to wear your fastest running shoes................

|||

If you have anytime left over after following

irishrovr%26#39;s excellent advice, use that time to pray

that you will have more time in Paris when

you come back.

|||

Eiffel tower then Notre Dame and Arc

|||

Thank you!!!!!! I really appriciate the advice!!!!!

I wouldn%26#39;t waste time queuing to get up the effiel tower, for good veiws go to Sacre Cour.

You realy have to decide what kind of things you want to see, I feel once you are inside a museum you could be any where, but thats me. You might want veiws, landmark buildings, charactor streets, wander along the river, churches.

Some areas are just great to wander through but if time is limited get a carnet for the metro and go straight to where you want to go.
