Hotel Safe

Are the safes in the hotels reliable - not just in paris but across europe?? My colleague told me that when her friend visited europe, their room was broken into and they came back to find their room in a mess and the safe opened (with everything gone) . THe safe didn%26#39;t seem to have any damage to it - seemed like someone had the key to open it.

Hotel safes are *not safe*.

All safes are manufactured with a master opener, and the hotel staff/mgmt possesses this for %26#39;emergencies%26#39;.

It is very easy to locate trip reports and hotel reviews of complaints about safes being opened. A particularly interesting one is on Villa Alessandra (I believe, you can go check) where the customer lost some money out of the safe, so he reported this loss to mgmt, then set up the safe again to see what happened. He says it was entered AGAIN, even after he%26#39;d reported it the first time!

Do a search in the upper left search box for %26#39;safe%26#39; or %26#39;room safe%26#39; and see what you get, not to mention on the web at-large.
