Getting a Carte Orange

I am on a tight budget and read somewhere that you can get a Carte Orange even if you are not from Paris. Is this easy to do (because I honestly would rather not be hassled if it is not)?

YES...you can purchase a CARTE ORANGE without being a resident of Paris or France. The process is simple and easy. You need to provide an head-shot photo (approx 1 1/4%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot; to affix to the photo ID card portion of the pass. It is useful to know the the CARTE ORANGE is a calender week pass that is vailid from FIRST TRAIN, Monday AM until LAST TRAIN, Sunday, PM. The Carte Orange pass is on sale at Metro/RER stations for the CURRENT week though Wednesday...and for the following week beginning on Friday. Simply show them your properly-sized head-shot photo(s) and ask for %26quot;..# Carte Orange, Zones 1-2, pour cette semaine, sil vous plait??..%26quot; and have your Euros or credit card ready. It%26#39;s a simple transaction.

There have been occasional reports over the years that some tourist have been refused the CARTE ORANGE pass by a ticket clerk but these occasions are few and far between and in most cases, they simply went to a different Metro station and got their pass there. One report complained of being refused a Carte Orange pass by a ticket clerk when they asked the clerk for a %26quot;...five day Carte Orange...%26quot;, The clerk told them that such a thing did not exist (and it doesn%26#39;t) and then sold them a 5 day Paris Visite pass instead. Could the clerk been more helpful? Probably. But there was also a long line waiting to purchase tickets and the clerk was probably rushed. SO...know what you want, how much it costs and what you need to provide and make the transaction quickly and efficiently...for everyone%26#39;s sake.

I would recomend just buying the Carte, which I think, its been a while, was just 10 tickets at a discounted rate. We found this was better because we were there from a wednesday to a thursday and the week lond pass from monday to sunday just wouldnt fit.

Just to clarify a bit, what you probably meant was a CARNET--booklet of ten(10) reduces priced individual tickets--10.50 Euro per Carmet ?

But even for an itinerary that you describe, Wednesday to Thursday, two(2) weekly CARTE ORANGE passes (Wed-Sun %26amp; Mon-Thurs) would still probably be the better choice---if for no other reason than the hop-on/hop-off convenience a transportation pass provides. One of the variables that no one can predict, is weather. If you have warm, sunny weather, you will tend to walk more and use public transportation less. But, if a day turns cold or damp or both, you%26#39;ll find yourself using the public transportation system a lot more. With tickets (even in reduced priced Carnets) each ride on bus or Metro is a new ticket.

My son and I just returned from Paris and purchased a carte orange. It worked out great. We bought one for zones 1 through 5 which included our transportation to/from CDG, to/from Versailles, as well as unlimited use on all buses and metros throughout the city and other zone 1 through 5 locations. Although we did a lot of walking it was convenient to just hop on a metro or bus whenever we wanted. We bought the orange at the CDG metro terminal without any problem.

Just got back and also used a Carte Orange. I loved it. I vote for this vs a carnet beacuse you never have to worry about running out of tickets and buying another carnet, It gave me peice of mind that I just needed to have that with me and ANY metro ride was just a few steps away!

What is the price difference? We will be in Paris Friday through Thursday. Which one makes sense for us?

|||

We%26#39;re going to be in Paris Saturday to Saturday. Carte Orange for the week and individual tickets for the weekend, or Visite card?

|||

If the Carte Orange doesn%26#39;t work for you, get the daily passes called Mobilis, good for unlimited rides for metro and bus for one day. Costs some 5.40 Euro.

You can purchase the Mobilis card at any metro stop for any day and also in advance.

Plan days you%26#39;d rather walk and do the sites you can%26#39;t reach by walking the day you%26#39;ll have a daily pass.

The CO can only be purchased until Wednesday for the current week and as from Friday for the following week starting on Monday.

We got the Carte Orange - I%26#39;d studied what tickets to get before we went, and went against Rick Steves advice to not get one for the 5 zones. We were doing to DLP, and to the airport - so it was a great deal for us from the Weds-Sunday that we were there. And we did buy it in the late afternoon on Weds.
