2 nights in Burgundy

Where would be the best place to spend 2 nights in Burgundy?

Any suggestions for nice hotels? Also good restaurant, where not speaking French won%26#39;t be a big problem?

How long will it take us to drive from Paris?

I would say don%26#39;t miss Beaune, Vzelay and Dijon.

|||

Yes to Dijon, Vezelay (magnificent Romanesque basilica) and Beaune. Beaune would be my choice for the best place to stay. The Hotel du Parc on the outskirts of Beaune is a pleasant hotel in a lovely park. If your budget can stretch to it, the Hotel du Cep in the heart of the old part of Beaune is elegant.

There are plenty of good restaurants in and around Beaune and most of them will have no problem with your lack of French.

La Ciboulette in the town is good value, as is La Bouzerotte a few miles out of Beaune in Bouzes les Beaune.

Have a great trip!

We will stop in Beaune at least for 1 night on our way to Switzerland. Is it worth spending 2 nights? Is there much to do in Beaune and nearby? We are planning to stay at Hotel Le Cep.

Do wineries have tours as in Napa Valley?

2 days are very fine. Beaune is a nice little city but a day there is far enough I think (a full half day even). You definitely need to see the countryside around there. They probably organize wine tasting tours. You%26#39;ll have to contact the office tourism in Beaune once you arrive there or even before your departure (cause I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised it%26#39;s booked).

Otherwise, I would advise you to visit the site www.burgundy-tourism.com There is an English version. There, you can access to a search engine to search cellars which provide visits and wine tasting. You can enter criterias such as the date of your stay, the area and even if English is spoken in the cellar. You%26#39;ll have a list of the cellars you can visit. I would advise you to call directly the cellar to fix an appointment. You may be alone for the tasting and meet directly the people who produce wine.

You also can take your car and follow signs around the road (there are plenty of invitations for wine tasting directly in the producers%26#39; cellars) but people may not always be available.

If you are near Beaune, I would recommend you to visit the exquisite villages of Meurseault, Pommard, Auxey-Duresse (and have a walk on the hill behind Auxey le Petit, it%26#39;s gorgeous). Try to go south and visit Rully. They make excellent wine which is cheaper than the Northern ones and there is a very beautiful castle (I think you can visit it during the summer time but you have to check first).

Hope it helps

Thank you for the great advice. Have you visited Corton or Montrachet?

|||

Yes, they are both very nice.

You know, this area is pretty small and there is little distance between all those villages (especially if you come from the US where the scale is so much wider!). You definitely need to walk in the villages (try not to choose only the most famous ones) and along little roads in the vineyards, meet wine producers in nice and prestigious domaines but also in smaller cellars (because in small cellars you%26#39;ll meet directly the family who produces the wine and that may be much more authentic).

Thank you for all the great advice.

You%26#39;re welcome. This region is truly beautiful and its countryside and villages are not much visited. I hope you%26#39;ll have a great stay there.
