marais/latin quarter?

is marais and latin quarter near each other??and which one is more lively at nights???

The Marais is on the right bank of the Seine

and the Latin Quarter is on the left bank.

My experience has been that the Latin Quarter

is more lively but I am hearing good things

about the Marais at night lately.

How close depends on where you are in each

arrondisment. Probably 6 blocks on the average

including crossing a bridge.

In my opinion, the most lively part of the Marais is the area in the 4th Arrondisement buonded approximately by rue des Francs Bourgeois to the north, the Seine to the South, rue du Temple to the west and Bvdes du Beaumarchais/Henri IV and Place de la Bastille to the East. The most lively areas of the Latin Quarter are roughly bounded by the Seine to the North, the roads leading south from Pont Neuf on Ile de la Citie to the west and Pont de Sully on Ile St Louis to the east and Bvde St Germaine to the South (plus rues Monge %26amp; Mouffetard through Place de la Contrescarpe %26amp; Place Monge down to Eglise St Medard). Both areas are very lively at night and safe. I think the Latin Quarter probably attracts more tourists at night and the Marais more French people but both groups seem to enjoy both areas.

Hello symyra,

The Latin quartier is more compact than the Marais and in my opinion easy to find lively places in the evening, though I must admit I rarely go there at night. You will probably find more locals in the Marais and it is a rather large area covering two arrondisements, 3rd and 4th so it depends on where you are.

The Marais is on the right bank, not far from place Bastille, (and very active in the blocks around place des Voges). The latin quartier us in the 5th on the left bank....not too far from each other, depending on how you go....maybe a mile from the active areas?

Also if you want some night life you might consider going up to rue Mouffetard which is in the 5th on its southery side behind the Pantheon...........or go to the area around gare Montparnasse...6th, I think.

bonne chance
